Point. Click. Love. | Two Minute Color Correction

This week began what I hope to be the first of many new Resonate one-on-one mentoring sessions. Four weeks working intensively with a momtographer to help her achieve her photography dreams.

Although I didn’t intend to tackle photo editing during our first week together, I took one look at a few of the images from our assignment and knew I could offer a quick tip that would instantly help recover some images that didn’t turn out quite as she anticipated.

The culprit?

Challenging light.

In the form of competing light sources from window light in the background and overhead incandescent lights that were on in the kitchen.

Sometimes switching the White Balance setting on our cameras to ‘Incandescent’ can combat this challenge while we take the photos.

But as a momtographer on the fly, one who may not know the settings on her camera inside and out, we can easily forget to make this change.

When that happens our colors turn out ‘off’ and have this warm cast that is less than ideal.  Unfortunately this frustrating, unbalanced lighting scenario can bring our dreams of bright, vibrant, and natural looking images to a screeching halt.

The good news is, we can correct the orange-yellow glow with just a few clicks of a mouse in my favorite online photo editor for moms: PicMonkey!

I was going to just give my Resonate student the low down on the unexpected editing technique I discovered today to help her correct her color casts, but then thought this one was too good to only share with one person.

So today I want to share it with all of you too.

Click the ‘Play’ button below to watch my latest episode of Point, Click, Love where I’ll share my quick 2 minute color correction editing fix.

If you’ve done color correction before, the technique that I’m about to share is probably not what you’d expect so I encourage you to give this 8 minute video a watch and tell me what you think when you’re done.

P.S. Did you find today’s tutorial helpful? Want to learn more editing tips? Come see my e-book Radiate, where self care through photography meets concrete photo editing lessons. Let’s get you loving your photos and your life even more. You can down the first chapter for FREE here.
