I used to hear this advice all the time from the pros:
- You must get your photos right in camera from the start.
- You won’t be a good photographer until you nail your exposures.
- Don’t make things harder than they need to be, spending lots of time editing is a waste of time.
Although there is some good truth to these statements, the more I heard them the less confident I felt about my photo taking abilities.
I’m almost certain the photographers that gave me that advice, did not have kiddos running circles around them while trying to ‘nail an exposure’.
Have you ever come home after what you thought was a GREAT day of taking pictures, only to discover that your photos were dull, dark, lifeless, or ‘off’ in some way?
I thought so.
It’s happened to me too; too many times to count.
I thought I’d have to toss every single one of my images because they didn’t meet my expectations for how they should look.
But I didn’t.
I started figuring out my way around photo editing programs.
I not only learned how to salvage my seemingly awful photos and transform them into something amazing, but I also found that photo editing was a relaxing way to tap into creative expression at the end of a tiring day.
