I watched in awe as he took great care and pride is his work. Over and around, over and around. In a zone of intense concentration I simply watched in amazement as he strung lights meticulously.
At the age of 24 I finally trimming my very own tree in our very own home.
Still proud of my Jewish roots and upbringing of course (a menorah proudly displayed on the mantle), but I was finally able to embrace the full true magic and spirit of December through my Christmas celebrating man.
Growing up, I was always fascinated with my friends Christmas tree, a true symbol of their family and heritage. Each with it’s own uniqueness, warmth, and personality.
They made the cold, dark, doldrums of winter feel just a tiny bit brighter.
As I watched my then fiancee check each little bulb, the anticipation grew. And when it came time to plug the tree in I was like a wide eyed toddler, experiencing her first Christmas miracle.
It’s no wonder that when I received a DSLR camera 5 years later, that my fascination with Christmas trees and their beauty would expand into an obsession with bottling up the full magic of the holiday season in as many photographs as possible.
The traditions, light, warmth, happiness, memories. There is so much to love about the holiday season and so much I want my family to remember about this time of year, years from now.
