Tell us a bit about your kids and your family

Myself, my husband, and tiny white fluffy dog are from North NJ. I’m a realtor by day and my husband is in the tech industry. We moved to Charleston. SC 6 weeks after our now 2 year old daughter was born. Emma (my daughter) is so cool, spunky, quirky, and creative. She inspires me every single day. My husband is an amazing and timid, yet strong and supportive guy. If I didn’t have him i’d simply float away into space! I think he is my biggest fan!

Tell us what you love about being a mom.

I love getting to know my daughter as her personality is forming. Everyday is a new adventure, and every day she amazes me more and more. I can’t wait to find out who she is and what she becomes. I hope she will be kind enough to teach me a thing or two in the process too!

What sparked your interest in photography?

For me it was a way to get my feelings out. One evening, back in’08 I had, what I know now to be, an emotional breakthrough. This was a rough day to say the least. While it was happening I was on the beach in Miami with nothing but my silly point and shoot Sony Cybershop camera taking photos of a sunset. I fell in love with the art of photography right then and there. If you go on my FB page you’ll still find that album. I’ll never take it down. I put the camera down for a while after that. There was a whole other series of events that took place recently that inspired me to get a DSLR camera, and I couldn’t be happier!

What was your biggest frustration before Momtographie?

I took Momtographie in summer of 2015. My biggest frustration was figuring out how to work this big clunky camera. I had this beautiful baby that I wanted to take photos of so I had hoped that if I bought a good camera that my photos would be better. That couldn’t be further from what actually happened…

Were there any ah ha moments your remember during class? What were you able to put to use right away?

I started to use aperture priority mode right away, but my ah ha moment occurred at the last class where all of the “ingredients” came together. All of the exercises that Beryl has me doing all made perfect sense at that moment. ISO, aperture, shutter speed, light, focus points etc It all just clicked!

What did you learn about yourself from taking Momtographie class?

That the way I see the world is beautiful, and I’ve been blessed to now have the ability to show that beauty to the world.

Do you have a favorite photo you’ve taken since our work together? Tell us about it.

Yes I do! Its a photo from Christmas Day on the beach. There was a real cool vibe at the beach that day. It was sunny but foggy and warm. People were playing with their children in the background and my daughter was running around in her christmas getup. Which consisted of red and green ruffle pants, a red top and sunglasses. I snapped the photo of her and my husband as they were walking under the pier.

Where do you hope your photography journey takes you in 2016? What are you working on now?

Besides taking beautiful photos of my daughter and the world Momtographie has inspired me to get into real estate photography, and family sessions. I am looking forward to developing my skills further and collaborating with other photographers so we could learn from each other. I’m also doing a 365 project with 3 other alumni. We have a private FB accountability group where we post our images every day. Some of us have never even met each other, but we have already become great friends and have grown in leaps and bounds since the beginning of the year.
