Recently I’ve been talking quite a bit about dreams.
Which may seem like it has nothing to do with taking better pictures.
But really it has everything to do with it.
You have a dream, whether you know it or not.
It’s probably a dream of documenting beautiful family memories. Connecting on a deeper level with the people who mean the most to you. And feeling purposeful and deliberate in your daily interactions.
Dreams don’t have to be the big ones of reaching fame and fortune.
In fact these days some of my biggest dreams are the smaller ones that bring me back to connecting, loving, and living life in a more purposeful and creative way.
Do you know the first step to reaching ANY of your dreams?
You must know what you want, speak it out loud, and then go after it.
Last week, I talked on a personal level a bit about success and achievement of some of my most soulful dreams.
And then I got this brave comment from one of my lovely students:
After I finish your online Momtographie course, I really would like to become a birth photographer and possibly a Douala! Haven’t told a whole lot of people my dream, but now I did! ~Beth
Right now I want you to take a minute and think about a dream you’re sitting with.
Find a slip of paper, or a post it note, and write it down.
(don’t worry I’ll wait!)

If you’re feeling particularly brave I’d love for you to share your dream in the comment section below.
Don’t worry, if you’re feeling nervous I’ll go first. Here are some of the dreams topping my list right now.
- Work with 10-15 women this year on a deeper one-on-one level and help them achieve their photography dreams.
- Create a getaway for moms that will allow them the physical and mental space to tap into their creative dreams, feel pampered, and refresh their souls.
- Be an agent of change in how we educate children in America. Promote creative thinking in our homes, schools, and daily living.
- Put cameras in the hands of kids this year. Teach them the power and magic that comes from snapping photos.
- Help families feel more connected through photography. Develop an experience that connects parents and children through creative (and fun!) photo projects.
These are a few of the dreams that are rolling around in my brain these days.
And hopefully by speaking them out loud to you I’ll make a few of them happen.
But every once and awhile an unexpected dream lands in your lap.
One you never even knew existed.
One so crazy you’re not sure you’re ready to make it happen.
But you go after it anyway.
That happened to me last month.
I was having a lovely Skype chat with one of the amazing people on my team that makes me look like a super mom.
Michelle is the superpower behind the design work that’s gone into each and every piece of class material I’ve ever put into the world. She is amazing. Period. The End. (if you’ve ever taken a class with me, you know this firsthand).
As we sat chatting about what was new and next on the horizon she suddenly stopped, paused, and then excitedly flailed her arms in the air and said:
Let’s publish a magazine!!!
And then I said “OMG….YES!!!”
And then we both danced around the room like little kids, until my next question, “When do we publish?”
And when she told me she wanted to turn the first issue around in less than a month I thought she was insane.
But that’s the funny thing about dreams.
They might seem insane.
But you go after them anyways.
And sometime they transform themselves into a beautiful gift you want to share with the world.
So today I get to gift you with a dream come true, the first issue of my brand new digital magazine: Momtographie
Enter your email address below and I’ll send you the link to view it right away!
